“It was a never-ending nightmare to live in a country where at any time you could lose your house or be forced onto the streets. Or worse yet, lose a limb or die.”

Meet the seeker: Titar

Originally from Syria, Titar describes “a very typical Armenian upbringing in a loving and close-knit family”. For as long as Titar can remember, she wanted to work in accounting, so when she finished school she enrolled in an accounting degree. She graduated in 2012 and was keen to start work immediately.

“Unfortunately, because of the war, this was not possible,” she says. “It was a never-ending nightmare to live in a country where at any time you could lose your house or be forced onto the streets. Or worse yet, lose a limb or die.”

By the end of 2013, Syria had become too dangerous – Titar and her family fled to Lebanon to apply for a humanitarian visa to Australia.

Titar found work in accounting and administration roles in Lebanon to help support her family. Once in Australia, Titar studied English as well as earning a diploma in accounting. Still, finding work was not easy. She joined CareerSeekers in 2017 and, shortly after, secured an internship in the accounts team at DM Roads. Titar continues to work with DM Roads after her internship, and her love of numbers remains.
