Mid-career professionals

We partner with leading organisations to create paid internships for asylum seekers or recently arrived refugees who are looking to restart their professional careers in Australia. Internships provide valuable local experience and access to industry networks – both of which are often barriers to new Australians accessing professional employment.

Internships provide participants with entry-level roles in their relevant sector, helping them to identify the appropriate transition path to longer-term opportunities.

Internships last 12 weeks and can commence at any point during the year after participants have successfully completed the preparatory stages of the program.

There is no cost to take part in the program, however participants need to actively join in and attend all workshops and events.

Currently, the program is open to those who meet the following criteria:

·     Asylum seeker or recently arrived refugee with English suitable for a professional workplace
·     A bachelor degree from a university in their country of origin
·     Professional experience in their country of origin
·     Based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide


1. Express interest

Submit your details here. A CareerSeekers team member will contact you to discuss your experience and suitability for the program.

2. Program Orientation

Attend a program orientation to learn more about the program and dates for the next intake in your location

3. Pre-employment training

Attend a series of compulsory workshops with other participants to help set you up for a successful internship

4. Identifying an opportunity

CareerSeekers puts you forward to one of our employment partners, who will assess your potential fit with their organisation. This process is demand driven by employers and can take as little as four weeks or as long as several months.

5. Interview

Every participant must undertake a formal corporate job interview. The interview is designed to assess your fit with the organisation and allows you to ask questions about how the internship will build your professional skills and experience.

6. Internship

Commence your internship. During your first week, you will sit down with CareerSeekers and your manager to set objectives for the internship. Each week you will provide a progress report to CareerSeekers detailing your accomplishments and asking for any help that you need to get the most out of the internship.

7. Post-internship

After the completion of the internship your advisor will support you to incorporate your experience from the program into your CV and focus your employment search.
